`
Charles Anderson was born in Fortuna, CA. in March of 1940. He was raised on a ranch with horses, cattle, chickens, dogs and sheep--all the great things that children love. As a child he was taught by his father to love animals, and how to care for them. For several years in his early teens, he was in FFA and raised sheep.
As a young man he went into the Army and served his country. After coming out of the service he went to work for Pacific Lumber Company where he learned to weld. That became his trade throughout life. He worked at Mare Island for a while before joining the Pipe Fitters union and became certified in all aspects of welding. He took great pride in his work and refused to compromise quality.
In the mid eighty’s he left the union and went into business for himself calling the company Certi-Weld. Shortly after he started Certi-Weld he patented his first invention which was the Dura-Pic tripod. That invention took him on a quest that eventually brought him in contact with Dr. John Madigan, Richard Morgan and UC Davis school of Vet Medicine. They teamed up and began working on a new sling and overhead frame for equine recovery. Having no idea, at that time, that it would take him on such an exciting and fulfilling journey.
During this time he was working on an animal walker and full body sling for smaller animals that would need rehabilitation, such as: foals, dogs, sheep etc. With his faithful dog, Jake, as his partner in this adventure he created a sling that was so comfortable Jake would actually “take a snooze” when Charlie would put him in the sling and walker. Pleased with his progress, Charlie took the sling and walker to UC Davis and Moira Fitzgerald, the Small Animal Nursing Supervisor, evaluated it for us and gave it a “green light” stating “the slings are a great asset to our patient care and staff safety.”,
The last 20 years of his life Charlie dedicated his energy and efforts to helping horses in need and the people who love them with the sling and a full range of other rescue equipment. His work in Equine rehabilitation and large animal rescue has brought about what is today known as “The Anderson Sling” the gold standard in the industry.
Charles Anderson's Award from UC Davis, He is the only non vet to receive this award to date. what a tremendous Honor.
Certificate from the US Army for the development of the Anderson Sling 17 august 1994, Very Impressive.
And a great complement to Charles Anderson, John Madigan, DVM and Richard Morgan
Charlie rode off into the sunset in 2007, He will be greatly missed by many in the Equine and Rescue community.
